Anxietas
This piece, entitled Anxietas for the Latin word for anxiety, is a reflection of how anxiety feels through the medium of character design. With the aid of the character description, it was my goal to help people unfamiliar with the illness have a better grasp on what living with the illness is like and to break down stereotypes by informing viewers.
The visual itself was drawn with large facial features and a soft form, to make the audience desire to ‘pick it up and comfort it’; which is what someone having an anxiety desires. It also allows for a sense of vulnerability to be perceived. The dual tails further represents this point by curving around the character in attempt to protect itself. The overall posture of the character helps define the character’s feelings of anxiety and the depression that coincides with it. The color purple throughout the character was incorporated as, psychologically, purple has connotations with sadness and turmoil.
