Interpretive Self Portrait

This three dimensional visual was created to reflect the three prominent characteristics that compose who I am; creative, discerning, and introverted. The spark within the form represents my creativity as, when I get inspired to create a piece of art, ideas spark inside of me. Similarly, the spark is bursting out of the form as my creativity is a way for me to get out of my shell and share what I’m passionate about. The hand prints over the eyes are a play on the symbol of the Three Monkeys, representing my discerning capabilities. In addition, the hand prints appear to be created by a hand which has been dipped in paint, further representing my creative side. Finally, the shell-like structure of the form exemplifies my introversion as the structure appears to be closing in around itself and creating a protective shell.

The form itself is created from a pair of pantyhose stretched over a wire structure. The pantyhose were coated in gesso and later painted.
